UNICEF's Innovation Fund opens a competition to finance technology startups

UNICEF's Innovation Fund intends to invest up to $ 100,000 in technology startups that use machine learning, data science or artificial intelligence. The company needs to be registered in one of the countries involved in UNICEF programs, and to have a functional open source prototype, or to be willing to provide access to the code.

In addition to the mentioned technologies, there are three areas of activity on which this program is focused. The first area is the creation of platforms for personalized services, or tools for process and decision automation. In another area are tools that optimize system performance to ensure better availability and realization of services, as well as drawing new insights from available data through data science, machine learning, or artificial intelligence. Data collection and processing fall into the third area.

UNICEF's Innovation Fund was set up specifically to fund open source technologies that can help children. The main motivation of the Innovation Fund is to find startups that deal with the most modern technologies - so that UNICEF can participate in their market, learn about these technologies and help them contribute to a better life for children.

Solutions need to address challenges in order to accelerate outcomes for children, be optimized for resource-scarce environments, be focused on reduced inequalities, and be implemented in more languages, including minority languages.

Applications are open until August 2, 2021.
