According to the company, the Novi Sad–based startup develops next-generation insurance products using artificial intelligence, advanced mathematical models, and data analytics to assess risk more accurately, price insurance policies more effectively, and build a higher-quality insurance portfolio.
Ominimo founder and CEO Dušan Komar said he believes this marks a significant milestone for the entire Serbian startup ecosystem.“When a country produces its first unicorn, international investment funds begin to view that country differently, and the chances of more major startups emerging from it increase significantly. Our goal is to continue attracting young talent from Serbia to join us in solving some of the most complex challenges in artificial intelligence for the insurance and financial sectors, and to build their careers at a globally relevant company without having to move abroad,” Komar said.
He added that Ominimo now employs more than 100 people, with two-thirds of the workforce specializing in data science and software engineering. Most of them are experts from Serbia working at the company’s development centers in Novi Sad and Belgrade.“These are young professionals with an average age of just 25. They are among the best mathematicians and programmers of their generation, with near-perfect academic records. The team includes medalists from some of the world’s most prestigious academic competitions, including the International Mathematical Olympiad,” Komar said.
Bruno Lusis of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) described the Novi Sad–based startup as one of the most impressive insurtech companies the EBRD has evaluated to date, citing its exceptional growth and strong business fundamentals.“We are pleased to support the company in the next phase of its development and look forward to a long-term partnership as it continues its growth journey,” Lusis said, according to the company's statement.
The company was founded by Dušan Komar and László Horváth from Serbia, together with Denis Weinbender from Germany.
The company launched operations in 2024 and quickly expanded into four European markets. Over the next year, it plans to enter six additional EU markets, as well as the United States.
According to the company, in less than two years, Ominimo has grown to nearly one million customers and achieved an annual business volume exceeding $350 million, making it the fastest-growing insurance technology (insurtech) company in the world.
The statement adds that Ominimo's valuation has increased from $230 million at its Series A funding round in April 2025 to $1.6 billion, according to the company. The news was reported by Tanjug, Serbia’s national news agency.
