Membership in EMBL would raise the scientific position of Serbia in the world

Assistant to the Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation in the Department for International Cooperation and European Integration, Ivana Vukašinović, said today that Serbia's potential membership in EMBL would represent a strategic step towards bringing our scientists closer to the world's leading institutions, thereby strengthening Serbia's presence in the international scientific community.

At the EMBL info-day in the Belgrade Science and Technology Park, Vukašinović reminded that Serbia became a potential member of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in June of last year, starting the three-year process towards full membership.

She explained that by integrating with EMBL, Serbia gets access to state-of-the-art laboratories and technologies, as well as rich scientific resources.

This approach not only empowers Serbian scientists to carry out revolutionary research, but also improves the quality and impact of their work, thereby raising the scientific position of Serbia at the global level, the assistant minister said.

According to her, Serbian scientists will have opportunities for cooperation, exchange of knowledge and development of skills through access to a wide network of researchers, students and visitors of EMBL.

Also, as she added, participation in EMBL programs, such as doctoral and postdoctoral training, will enrich the scientific expertise of Serbian researchers, encouraging a culture of innovation and excellence in our scientific community.

The EMBL info day was organized for the Serbian research community in order for scientists in Serbia to become familiar with the opportunities that EMBL provides to member countries and potential members, including trainings at all levels of education, scientific services for EMBL members, and a special focus was on EMBL-related experiences for technology transfer.
