Serbia - the land of honey with protected geographical origin

Do you know which is the last honey to be protected as honey with geographical origin in 2023 by the Intellectual Property Office?

It is "Honey from Tara", which is the eighth honey with geographical origin registered with the Intellectual Property Office.

In addition to "Honey from Tara", the following are registered with the Institute: "Homoljski honey", "Fruškogorski linden honey", "Kačerski honey", "Đerdapski honey", "Vlasinski honey", "Deliblatski honey", "Rtanjski honey".

Based on the analysis of the data available in the GIview database, a total of 40 honeys with geographical origins originating from the territories of 11 member states have been registered at the EU level. Among the member states, honey producers from Portugal lead with a total of 9 registrations of such products, followed by Poland and Spain with 6 registrations each, from France with 5 registrations, from Italy, Slovenia and Croatia with 3 registrations each, from Greece with two registrations, while producers from Bulgaria, Slovakia and Luxembourg each registered one honey with a geographical origin.

Looking at the total number of registered honeys with geographical origin, the Republic of Serbia could be compared with the most successful EU member states in this product category, such as Portugal, Poland, Spain, France.
