Scientists are developing a new pharmacological approach in the treatment of obesity and associated metabolic diseases

As part of the PROMIS project of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia - scientists from the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković" together with colleagues from the Faculty of Biology in Belgrade, the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad and the Faculty of Medicine in Niš - are investigating the reprogramming of white adipose tissue cells using selected pharmacological strategies, the so-called "browning". The #WARMED project is developing a new pharmacological approach that will be applicable in cell transplantation therapy of obesity and associated metabolic diseases.

A project team composed of 6 female scientists works in the team of the #WARMED project. The project manager is PhD Aleksandra Janković, who presents the project and the results, as well as the laboratory work and equipment used during the project and which was provided through the PROMIS program of the Science Fund. It is a project that is at the end of its implementation and has already achieved significant scientific results. In addition to published scientific publications, the project team works on intellectual property protection and patents.

The importance of the PROMIS program - in addition to strengthening the careers of young researchers, is also reflected in a wider contribution to society, from quality ideas to scientifically based solutions.
