Serbia's ambitious plans in the field of artificial intelligence development

The Minister of Information and Telecommunications in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Mihailo Jovanović, stated today at the Kopaonik Business Forum that Serbia has set ambitious goals in the areas of development and application of artificial intelligence, information security, biotechnology and digital infrastructure, which are part of the "Serbia 2027 - Leap" plan into the future".

The Minister pointed out that this is why an invitation was issued today to all graduated young experts and final year students to join the team of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications and be part of more than attractive projects that are changing the look of Serbia.

He predicted that young experts will have the opportunity to work on the establishment of the last generation supercomputer, the development of the National Platform for Artificial Intelligence, the strengthening of the National Center for Information Security, the development of software solutions for biotechnology and electronic administration, and the further expansion of the broadband telecommunications network in Serbia.

According to him, the priorities of the Ministry and the Government include the further expansion of the capacity of the State Data Center in Kragujevac and the supercomputers housed in it, and the expansion of the innovation ecosystem in Serbia through the construction of the Innovation District in Kragujevac.

The minister said that the priorities are the commissioning of the digital-innovation-creative center Ložionica in Belgrade, the construction of the Science and Technology Park in Kruševac and the expansion of the capacities of the existing parks in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš and Čačak.

He reminded that all startups within science and technology parks have the possibility of free use of supercomputer capacities for the development of artificial intelligence in Kragujevac.

According to him, artificial intelligence is a key new technology that already has the greatest impact on the economy and all spheres of our lives and represents one of the biggest challenges the world is facing today.

The Government of Serbia recognized this in time, so we are the first country in Southeast Europe to adopt the Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy for the period from 2020 to 2025, and we are already preparing a new one for the period until 2030, Jovanović stressed.

He pointed out that the Institute for Artificial Intelligence was founded in 2021, and that Serbia also has its own National Platform for AI - a supercomputer, which is given free of charge to universities, faculties, institutes and domestic startup companies.
