The University of Belgrade dropped out of the top 500 on the Shanghai list, and Novi Sad was included again

The University of Belgrade, on the Shanghai list of universities for 2021 published today, is ranked between 501st and 600th place, while the University of Novi Sad took the position from 901st to 1000th place.

The University of Belgrade recorded a decline compared to last year, when it took a position between 401st and 500th place.

The oldest university in Serbia had the best position in 2016 and 2017, when it was between 201st and 300th place. From 2018, it began to fall on the informal, but prestigious list of world universities.

In addition to the University of Belgrade, the list of 1,000 best universities in the world also includes the University of Novi Sad, which took the position from 901st to 1000th place.

The University of Novi Sad dropped out of the Shanghai list last year, but managed to return again this year.

From the surrounding universities, the list also includes the University of Ljubljana (from 501st to 600th place) and the University of Zagreb (from 601st to 700th place).

In first place is Harvard University, followed by Stanford, Cambridge, MIT, Berkeley, Princeton, Oxford, Columbia, the California Institute of Technology and the University of Chicago.

The University of Belgrade was on this list for the first time in 2012, among the 500 ranked.

Although the Shanghai list is informal, it is a matter of prestige to be on it, because it includes less than four percent of the world's universities.

The academic ranking of world universities has been conducted by Shanghai Zhao Tong University since 2003.
