Session of the Serbian-Chinese Joint Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation

Considering the traditionally friendly bilateral relations between the two countries, cooperation with China is very important for Serbia, especially in the field of science, technological development and innovation, it was said at the session of the Serbian-Chinese Joint Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

State Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development prof. Dr Marijana Dukić Mijatović opened the session and reminded that in 2016 a Memorandum was signed between the two ministries on joint financing of development and research projects, which is the basis for financing over 85 approved joint projects of researcher mobility and a total of 12 approved joint strategic scientific projects so far.

The State Secretary also referred to the previously formed joint Chinese-Serbian laboratory between the Siniša Stanković Institute for Biological Research - IBISS and the Shanghai Institute of Matter Medicine, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which will research medicinal plants, microorganisms and innovative drugs.

Although, as she said, there are already about 50 such laboratories in the world, this is the first such laboratory in Serbia and the only one in the region, and it is an incentive for further scientific cooperation.

The Chinese side was led by Mr. Huang Wei, Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, Co-Chair of the Committee. He especially presented the latest policies adopted after the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, as well as the harmonization of the two countries in the fields of science, technology and innovation. He stressed that mutually beneficial bilateral relations serve as a solid basis for bilateral scientific and technological cooperation.
