Measures for strengthening the Serbian knowledge-based economy are presented

The First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Branko Ruzic presented today, at the conference "Smart Specialization - The Road to a Knowledge-Based Economy", a package of measures from the Action Plan for Implementing the Smart Specialization Strategy of Serbia.

On that occasion, Ruzic pointed out that the Strategy for the period 2020-2027 illuminates the directions in which Serbia will move in order to create an efficient economy, capable of developing and marketing top innovative products and services that are competitive on the global market.

The Action Plan (2021-2022), adopted in April, is a package of concrete measures to strengthen the Serbian economy based on knowledge and innovation, he said, explaining that the measures focus on four priority areas where we have a competitive advantage in global market competition. - food for the future, machines and processes for the future, ICT and creative industries.

The First Deputy Prime Minister underlined that the goal of the Strategy is to develop entrepreneurial skills on the market and for people to acquire various knowledge, which would lead to the progress of society and economic growth of the country. He assessed that it is important to acquire the necessary entrepreneurial knowledge and skills in the educational system, which will be valued on the market through innovative products and services that are competitive on the world market.

The action plan, as he specified, contains 43 measures, and many of them have already been implemented, although the deadline for implementation is two years, and financial resources in the amount of approximately 18 billion dinars have been provided from various sources.

Namely, 5.3 million euros have been allocated from the budget of Serbia for early development programs and co-financing of innovations, and 60 million dinars have been allocated through the Innovation Activity Fund, said Ruzic and said that this is one of the key topics that the line ministry will deal with in the next period.

The Director of the Republic Secretariat for Public Policies, Bojana Tošić, pointed out that this institution participated in the development of the Strategy, and that the document is the result of cooperation between representatives of the economy, academic institutions, the state and the civil sector.

The Secretariat is also one of the bodies responsible for the implementation of measures related to the improvement of business conditions, she pointed out and noted that the World Bank and the European Union also participated in the development of the Strategy.

The conference also presented an example of good practice of the company "Desing", which has grown from a small family business into an exporter, whose fruit products are present in 27 countries around the world.

The introduction of new technologies and innovations has enabled this company to develop new products for the whole world.
