The historical success of the Serbian scientist Gordana Vunjak-Novaković

Serbian scientist Gordana Vunjak-Novaković was chosen as the finalist of the prestigious European Inventor Award for this year for her innovative contribution in biomedicine, the European Patent Office (EZP) announced in Munich.

The work of this professor from Columbia University, a member of SANU and the first Serbian woman to become a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, solved complex problems related to the replacement of damaged tissue, which determined the EZP to be a finalist in Serbia in the prestigious category. "Life's work".

This most quoted Serbian scientist so far, as a child, was inspired by one of the world's greatest minds, Nikola Tesla. She initiated the finding of an alternative approach in laboratory cell culture, which led to a revolutionary achievement in tissue culture for use in regenerative medicine.

The winners of this year's most prestigious European inventor award will be announced at a ceremony on June 17.
