The Working Group, which brings together leading experts from the business sector, academia, and public administration, both from Serbia and the diaspora, is tasked with analysing the current state of microelectronics, chip design, and related industries in the Republic of Serbia. It is also responsible for preparing an expert opinion and proposing a strategic framework and development programme for a domestic chip design ecosystem.
“Integrated circuit design is one of the foundations of the modern digital economy and plays a key role in the development of telecommunications, artificial intelligence, the automotive industry, IoT devices, computing systems, as well as defence and security systems. It would be of immense importance for the Republic of Serbia to develop its own capacities, first and foremost, for chip design. The Working Group has focused its activities on three areas – the scientific and educational, business, and institutional frameworks. I expect the preliminary results of our work to be presented at the end of September,” said Dr Mihailo Jovanović, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment and Chair of the Expert Working Group.
The work of the Working Group represents an important step towards positioning Serbia as a regional research and development (R&D) hub in the field of chip design by connecting institutions, the academic community, research organisations, and the business sector.
The results of the Working Group will serve as a foundation for developing long-term policies and measures aimed at advancing Serbia’s domestic microelectronics industry and strengthening the technological sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia.
