By joining the Artemis Accords, Serbia has entered a new phase of cooperation with the United States in the field of space exploration. This framework opens up opportunities for Serbian universities, institutes, researchers, innovative companies, and young talent to establish stronger ties with NASA and the U.S. space ecosystem, develop joint projects, exchange knowledge, and become part of new technological value chains.
At the meeting, it was agreed that efforts would be intensified in the coming period to further develop concrete areas of cooperation, with a particular focus on connecting Serbian researchers and institutions with NASA, identifying joint research and technological projects, and developing programmes that will enable young scientists, students, engineers, and innovators from Serbia to collaborate with U.S. partners.
Serbia also has a significant historical legacy in this area, as Mihajlo Pupin was one of the early members of the U.S. National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the institution that served as the direct predecessor and foundation for what later became NASA.
It was particularly emphasised that Serbia has significant potential among its young people. Accordingly, one of the priorities will be to create new programmes supporting projects led by young researchers, engineers, and innovators, facilitate their connections with NASA and other scientific institutions in the United States, and gradually strengthen Serbia’s domestic scientific and technological capacities for space research and utilisation.
Another important shared objective will be to create the conditions for NASA’s presence at EXPO 2027 in Belgrade. The Ministry and the Embassy of Serbia in the United States will work on this initiative in the coming period, with the ambition of using EXPO as an international platform to showcase Serbia–U.S. cooperation in science, innovation, and space technologies, as well as to connect Serbian institutions and companies with American partners.
