A Strong Contribution of Women to the Development of Science in Serbia – Commemorating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Today marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This day is dedicated to supporting women, girls, and young girls in pursuing science, as well as highlighting their outstanding contributions and achievements across all scientific fields.

UNESCO data show that globally, only one in three researchers is a woman. In Serbia, significant progress has been made in recent years toward more equal participation of women in science. The eNauka information system indicates that women account for nearly 55 percent of all active researchers in Serbia.

Regarding participation in projects supported through the Science Fund programs, women make up 59 percent of all researchers. Women serve as project leaders on 307 out of 553 projects carried out to date, representing 55.5 percent of all project leaders.
