National Awards “For Women in Science” Presented: Minister Balint: “Your scientific achievements represent a contribution to the development of Serbian science and society

The national “For Women in Science” awards were presented to the winners at a ceremony marking the 15th anniversary of this prestigious program.

Minister Balint congratulated the award recipients and welcomed them on behalf of the relevant ministry, emphasizing the importance of the awarded research for the further development of Serbia’s scientific community.

“The cooperation between the National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO and the company L’Oréal shows how joint efforts of the public and private sectors can create lasting values. Fifteen years of continuity testify to the seriousness, responsibility, and vision of this program,” the minister stated. He added that he hopes the awards will serve as encouragement for the recipients’ further work and as confirmation that their contribution has been noticed, appreciated, and is important.

The laureates of this year’s National Awards within the international L’Oréal–UNESCO “For Women in Science” program are Jelica Milošević, Ana Salević, and Milica Martinović. They were recognized for their outstanding scientific work in the fields of protein biochemistry and biophysics, food and materials science, and pharmaceutical sciences and cosmetology. The young scientists also received a financial grant of €5,000 each to support research to be conducted in Serbia.

The prestigious international “For Women in Science” initiative has been in existence for 27 years, and this year Serbia marks a юбilee—15 years since the launch of the program in the country. To date, more than 800 young women scientists have participated in the National Awards competition, with 44 of them receiving awards totaling over 26 million dinars. The next cycle of the program begins on January 1, 2025. The call for research project support is intended for young women scientists from Serbia up to the age of 35 who are enrolled in or have completed doctoral or postdoctoral studies in the field of natural sciences.
