Belgrade will host the BelBi 2024 bioinformatics conference

Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Jelena Begović, said today, at the opening of the international conference "Belgrade BioInformatics Conference 2024 - BelBi 2024", that the Government pays significant attention to providing further support to science, above all, to biotechnology, information and communication technologies and by merging them with artificial intelligence.

Speaking about the importance of artificial intelligence for the development of bioinformatics and the need to exploit the potential of artificial intelligence, Begović pointed out that machine learning significantly increases productivity in the development of bioinformatics tools.
The Minister reminded that there is a State Data Center in Serbia, which has put its capacities at the service of science.

We have started the construction of the BIO4 campus, where biotechnology, information technology and artificial intelligence will cooperate. This is the largest single investment in science and scientific infrastructure in Serbia, which shows our commitment to creating a future in which science and technology will flourish, concluded Begović.

The conference is organized by the Institute for Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGI), in cooperation with institutes and faculties of universities in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Kragujevac, as well as national scientific societies.

BelBi 2024 is dedicated to the application of bioinformatics systems, machine learning and artificial intelligence in molecular biology, biomedicine, biotechnology, bioengineering, pharmacology.

In addition to researchers from Serbia, the conference also brings together leading experts in the field of bioinformatics from several European countries, as well as from the United States of America and the People's Republic of China, and this year's program also includes an exhibition on the subject of bioinformatics.
