The best innovations for accelerating the circular economy in Serbia awarded 783,000 USD

On the occasion of the World Recycling Day, which is celebrated on March 18, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), today awarded the authors of the best innovations for the further development of the circular economy in Serbia.

Ten innovations received financial support of a total of 783,000 USD so that they could be realized during this year.

These are solutions for saving energy using new technologies, for producing energy from bio-waste, using organic waste to obtain compost, fertilizers and new materials, using hazardous waste for the production of high-quality fertilizer, as well as for recycling textiles, paper, cardboard and cigarette packs in order to obtain new products from them. Awardees were Nektar doo, DETO doo Pančevo, Elixir Zorka-of mineral fertilizers doo Šabac, Bitgear Wireless Design Services doo, Mivaka doo Belgrade, Association for Support of People with Disabilities “Naša Kuća” (Our House), Public Utility Company (PUC) Osečina, PUC Novi Pazar and PUC Novi Sad and the Belgrade municipality of Stari grad.

This event was organized as part of the project "Reducing the carbon footprint of local communities by applying the principles of circular economy in the Republic of Serbia - Circular Communities", which is being implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and UNDP, with the financial support of GEF.
