Serbia is among the top five countries in the OECD initiative to report innovative solutions during the Pandemic

During the state of emergency, Serbia implemented a large number of innovative solutions in the short term in response to the crisis caused by the coronavirus, and thus found itself at the very top of the countries in the world with the largest number of innovations during the COVID-19 crisis.

The establishment of innovative technological solutions and electronic services aimed to achieve optimal coordination of health care, education, security and other key systems in times of crisis, timely and accurate information of citizens, as well as continuous provision of services to citizens and the economy.

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Public Sector Innovation Observatory monitors the governments' innovative responses to the COVID-19 virus crisis, and the organization's official website (https://oecd-opsi.org/covid-response/) also presents solutions implemented in the Republic of Serbia. With 22 innovative solutions, Serbia is one of the five countries in the world with the largest number of innovations. In the analysis published on May 28 on the OECD Observatory's website, solutions and applications "Donate Plasma", "Be a Volunteer", "Digital Solidarity", which were implemented with the support of the United Kingdom Good Governance Fund and the Program, were highlighted as examples of good practice. United Nations Development Agency (UNDP), automatic info service COVID-19 (chatbot), as well as "My Classroom", "My School", "eGarden", "eRegistration", the initiative to donate computers to children from socially disadvantaged families and other solutions in within the integrated response of the education system.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, stated on this occasion that the innovative way of thinking proved to be a necessary approach in a critical situation, and that our previous investments in technology and innovations were actually investments in the resilience and agility of our system. "As a country, we have shown that when we work as a team, we achieve the best results. In addition to the Office for IT and eGovernment, IT teams within other ministries, from the first day of the state of emergency, we invited citizens and companies to find fast and efficient technological solutions together. From this perspective, I can say that the creativity and innovation of these solutions have actually shaped our rapid and effective response to the fight against the virus, and that this innovation will help accelerate economic development even after a pandemic. ”

Because of these results, Serbia is invited to join the OECD Declaration on Innovation in the Public Sector. This declaration was signed in 2019 by 35 OECD member countries, and Serbia would be one of the few countries to join even though it is not a member. It aims to encourage, support and strengthen innovation in the public sector, affirm an innovative approach in solving both old and new challenges.
