The first Serbian respirator is produced by the end of April

The leading team of 14 local experts has been creating the first Serbian respirator for fifteen days to be used to treat patients with coronary virus. It is comprised of 12 researchers from the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, a molecular biologist and mechanical engineer from the SmartResearch company, who was selected for this project at a public competition of the Innovation Fund.

They predict that the first five respirators, fully functional and ready for dispatch to the clinics, will be produced by April 30 at the latest, and that when the mass production starts, ten to 100 artificial lung ventilation systems will be made daily.

Vladimir Nesic, a leading researcher at the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, said that they had also contacted companies to hand over a respirator for mass production. He points out that these companies assure them that they can produce about 60 mechanical parts for respirators per day, which means that they will make up to 100 devices per day at an accelerated pace.

Experts from Pupin design electronics, mechanics, sensors, pneumatics, respirator management and software, while SmartResearch is in charge of designing mechanical components, that is, rapid development and prototype production, explains Dr. Marko Panic, co-founder of the company. He added that he and the republican institute have been making devices for biochemical laboratories for two years and that record-breaking development of the Serbian respirator is possible, among other things, thanks to that experience.

- The deadline for production of the machine is very short, and the device is very complicated. But the situation in the country is such that we have no choice, we must manage to produce it in the next month - said Panic.
